The well-loved Botanical Gardens of Pondicherry that houses a variety of exotic plants and flowers, came into existence in 1826 and were originally meant to be an elaborate French Garden. To beat the scorching heat of the town it is often tempting to relax in the cool, sleepy premises of the garden. The gate flaunting the grandiose, colonial French architecture, leads the visitor into an alternate world of greenery and peace. In the heart of the busy town, the garden is a quiet bubble where one can immerse oneself in nature. It adds great educational and recreational value to Puducherry.

A mix of endangered and exotic species of plants is spread out all over the place. There are 28 plots are dividing the Botanical Garden and each has a separate theme. The hub of horticultural development, the garden is the city’s haven for plant lovers. For most people, the highlight of the visit is the toy train ride. Also, check out the musical fountain and the aquarium.
